BLACK STARS is realized by four young guys from Amsterdam, Holland. With a lot of love of football, fascination for Africa and enthusiasm the youngsters decided to go to the African Cup of Nations in januari 2008 (Ghana). By doing so, Sammie, Jurre, Simon and Josse show you can tell an interesting story, without any camera experience but with a lot of passion.
Sammie van Dorp (25) is a student Antropology on the University of Amsterdam. This summer he will pass his BA-degree. In 2007, Sammie went from Amsterdam to Accra (capital of Ghana) by car. Sammie did not only see a lot of the inside of his car, but also experienced the culturally richness of African countries like Morocco, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana. Being so positively overwhelmed by all his adventures, he decided to come back to Africa during the African Cup of Nations.
Jurre de Beer (26) finalised his MA-degree of Human Geography on the University of Amsterdam in September 2007. During his studying career, Jurre went to Kenya to do research for Community Action and Partnering in Nakuru (here) . During this trip, Jurre learned how to work under African conditions and circumstances. Having a fascination for film, he decided to participate on this filmproject.
Josse Govaart (26) studied Politicology on the University of Amsterdam. With no Africa-experience but a lot of football knowledge he decided to join his cousin Sammie on this trip.
Simon Kwekkeboom (20) studies Journalism in Utrecht, Holland. With his current study, Simon learns how to look with an journalist eye to news and in depth stories. Meanwhile he learns how to work with camera equipment.
